Nuestra idea es volar a California para comprar una furgoneta o caravana con la que poder cruzar toda América, ya que es la manera más económica y que nos permite ir a nuestro aire. California es un estado donde hay mucha oferta de este tipo de vehículos de segunda mano y muchos de los vendedores de estos vehículos pueden arreglar todo el papeleo y seguro para su adquisición, por lo que el viaje irá de California hasta Alaska y una ver en Alaska y explorarla haremos el descenso hasta Tierra del Fuego en la Patagonia argentina. Para tener tiempo de comprar el vehículo tranquilamente ,llegar hasta Alaska y bajar de nuevo, consideramos que con la entrada regular a Estados Unidos el tiempo sería un tanto limitado y necesitaremos un visado, porque si algo queremos en este viaje es no tener prisa, tenemos fecha de ida pero no de vuelta.

Our idea is to fly to California to buy a van or motorhome in order to cross all America, as it is the most economical way and it will allow us to go on our own. California is a state where there is a lot of supply of these vehicles second hand and many of the dealers who sell these vehicles can arrange all paperwork and insurance. The trip will go then from California to Alaska and after exploring it, we will start the way down to Tierra del Fuego in the Argentina's Patagonia. To have time enough to buy the vehicle, reach Alaska, explore the country and down again, we believe that with regular entry in United States time will be too limited, that is why we will apply for a visa, because if anything we want on this trip is not to hurry, there is a date to leave but not to return.

09-04-2016 - Visita a La embajada - Visit to the embassy

Hemos concertado una entrevista para hoy a ver si podemos conseguir el visado de 6 meses. Estamos un poco nerviosos porque es crucial para poder tener tiempo suficiente para comprar el vehículo y poder visitar todas las maravillas que nos ofrece este gigante. Vamos con papeles de todo tipo para mostrar que tenemos dinero suficiente para mantenernos durante nuestra estancia, y que tenemos la intención de abandonar el país así como lazos que nos atan en España, tales como familia, vivienda propia etc. Nos han dado cita a las 9:15 de la mañana, así que ha tocado madrugón. A la hora en punto nos permiten entrar y es de agradecer porque mientras estamos esperando en la calle, después de pasar todos los controles, registros, toma de huellas etc. entramos a una sala espera donde hay unas cincuenta personas esperando para las entrevistas pufff…, toca esperar, pero con la ilusión que tenemos no importa. Después de dos horas vemos nuestro número 82 en la pantalla, nos toca a ver que tal, que hemos estado preparándonos una semana. Nos preguntan cuál es la intención de nuestro viaje a Estados Unidos, le contamos nuestro proyecto y directamente nos piden extractos de nuestras cuentas bancarias, dos minutos más tarde el chico que nos atiende nos dice con un fuerte acento americano “ ¿Puedo unirme con ustedes en este viaje? Y acto seguido nos dice que el ¡visado está concedido !. Y que los pasaportes nos llegaran a Tobarra en unos días.

We have arranged an interview for today to see if we can get the visa for 6 months. We are a little bit nervous because it is very important for us to have enough time to buy the car and visit all the wonders that offers this giant. We have gather all kind of papers to show that we have enough money to stay in USA during our trip and we intend to leave the country as well documents that proof possessions and family in Spain. We have an appointment at 9:15 in the morning, so we got up really early in the Morning to reach Madrid from our village. Lukely we got called very on time because we needed to wait in a row in the street, after passing all controls, having fingerprints records taken etc. We entered a waiting room where about fifty people were waiting for interviews pufff…, we have to wait, but as we are very exited, we don’t really care. After two hours we see our number 82 on the screen, it is our turn, let’s see how is it going, we have been preparing this interview for one week, They ask what is the intention of visiting the United Estates, we tell them our project and they ask us directly extracts from our bank accounts. Two minutes later the guy behind the counter says with a strong American accent "Can I join you on this trip” And immediately he tells us that the visa is granted!. And that passports will arrive in Tobarra in a few days.

20-04-2016 - Carnet de conducir internacional, el primer obstáculo - International driving licence, first challenge

Para nosotros tener el carnet internacional es de vital importancia ya que este viaje queremos hacerlo con nuestro propio vehículo. Este trámite que en principio parecía uno de los más sencillos se ha convertido en un obstáculo, este carnet lo expide la jefatura de tráfico y te lo dan el mismo día presentado tu permiso de conducir vigente y una foto, el problema es que nosotros tenemos carnet de conducir holandés ya que hemos vivido allí durante unos años y nos tocó renovarlo durante nuestra estancia, siendo Europa, nunca pensamos que tendríamos un problema en recibir el internacional mostrando nuestro documento holandés pero así ha sido, la cara se nos ha puesto cuando nos han dicho que no era posible que hay que hacer un canje que se tramita con Holanda y que suele tardar entre un mes y un mes y medio. “ Pero sólo tenemos tres semanas y media, le comentamos a la señora que nos responde, pues no se puede hacer nada hasta que no tengamos el español “ NOOOoooo ¡

For us, to have the international driving license is very important, since we want to travel in our own vehicle. This procedure' that it seemed one of the easiest, it has become a challenge to get it, this licence is issued by the Traffic Department and you get it the same day providing your driving license and a picture, the problem is that we have a Dutch licence since we where living there for some years and we had to renew it during our stay. As we are in Europe, we never thought that we' could have a problem to receive the international licence showing our Dutch document, but actually we were wrong. Our face has turned when they said, that was not possible and we need to change the dutch licence into the Spanish in order to apply for this licence and actually it takes ussually a month and a half. "But we only have three and a half weeks", we told the lady who responds sorry there is nothing we can do until we have the Spanish one. ¡ NOOOoooo ¡

06-05-2016 - ¡ Carnets de conducir internacional conseguidos ¡ - INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENCE GRANTED !

Y esto gracias al tío de Jose Carlos que tiene un contacto en Tráfico, en España si tienes un contacto, tienes un tesoro, porque la administración funciona regular, de hecho nuestro expediente estaba paralizado. Bueno, ya podemos conseguir nuestra casa rodante.

And this thanks to José Carlos´s uncle that has a contact in the Traffic Department, in Spain if you have a contact , you have treasure , because the administration works so-so, in fact our files were on hold. Well, we are able now to get got our motorhome .

07-05-2016 - Salud y Vacunas - Health and Vaccines

Tenemos la intención de atravesar todo el continente americano, y hay zonas de riesgo donde ciertas vacunas y consejos de salud son necesarios. Para obtener toda esta información hay que dirigirse al Servicio de Vacunación de Viajeros Internacional de la Seguridad Social, se puede consultar primero con tu médico de cabecera.

Vacunas de uso rutinario: Difteria – Tétanos, Rabia, Hepatitis A y B.

Vacunas de uso selectivo: Fiebre tifoidea, fiebre amarilla.

Precauciones a tomar para prevenir las enfermedades trasmitidas por picaduras de mosquitos:

Protección directa contra el mosquito, uso de repelentes ( DEET de entre un 30-50 %), la duración del efecto depende de la concentración y de la temperatura. mosquiteras y cubrirse con prendas que cubran al máximo el cuerpo.

Fármacos profilácticos, suelen ser pastillas principalmente para la Malaria.

La doctora se ha hecho la picha un lio, vamos que no se aclara de lo que nos tenemos que tomar para la malaria con tanto país y teniendo en cuenta que vamos muy a la aventura después de unos ocho e-mails nos ha aconsejado el tratamiento para nueve países.

Nosotros hemos pasado por nuestro médico de cabecera para que nos recete algunos medicamentos que nos serán seguros de utilidad en nuestro viaje ¡ POR SI LAS MOSCAS !

09-05-2016 - Dinero - Money

Ya que en la mayoría de los países por donde vamos a pasar, se puede sacar dinero en los cajeros, funcionaremos con tarjetas de crédito, VISA en nuestro caso, que es reconocida en toda América. Nos hemos hecho dos de la misma cuenta por si acaso perdemos una y hemos ampliado el crédito hasta el permitido.

We have made two cards of the same account in case we lose one and we have increased the credit to the permitted.
